TreeKid - Victoria
Chilean-born Carla Risco started setting up her Reservoir-based business TreeKid in 2018 while attending Sister School. TreeKid offers unique and colourful garments that will adjust as little ones grow. Carla believes that taking care of every single step in the supply chain is fundamental to achieving sustainability. That’s why she is constantly researching and implementing better practices and solutions in the selection of the fabrics, manufacturing processes and distribution. Every design is developed paying careful attention to the impact on society and the environment, which will allow Treekid, in the near future, to become a circular fashion label. Behaving in a transparent and ethical manner ensures an approach that helps protect the long-term success of society and the environment. When Carla arrived in Australia she was planning to stay for only twelve months, but fate intervened: she met her partner and she’s now the proud mum to Leon, the inspiration behind TreeKid. TreeKid, Carla says, is an Ethical and Sustainable kids clothing label, mixing colourful fabrics from all over the world, combined with denim. Its first collection is inspired by the multi-coloured waxed cotton prints from West Africa, aiming to produce colourful high quality and hard-wearing garments. Carla says that being part of Sister Tribe helped to create the foundation of her dream, and daily gives her ‘wings’ to chase and achieve her goals. A big challenge for Spanish-speaking Carla is the language barrier and the difficulties of establishing a business by herself in a new country, something many other Sisters can relate to!
