Kgari 3 Sisters - Queensland

Kgari 3 Sisters is owned and operated by myself Susan Reys, and my partner Hendrick Fourmile. We are located in Cairns. Henry is a traditional owner of Cairns. A Gimuy Walubara Yidinji elder. I am a Badtjala woman, a descendant of Kgari formerly named Fraser Island and a Guugu Yimithirr woman from the Dharrpa Warra clan, Starcke, Cape York North Queensland. My Aboriginal name is Duliny.

Our business was established in 2014 on returning home where I was born and raised. Where memories of family, love, and laughter; connection to country, culture and knowledge is it’s greatest. Our small little business has since grown, and we provide various products and services to our customers and community in Cairns. We also have a stall every Sunday at Port Douglas Markets because we love face-to-face contact with our customers.

Acrylic on Canvas I have loved the journey of playing with coloured pigment to explore my cultural stories knowledge and connection to the country. I paint using a variety of styles and techniques from more traditional looking, to what I like to call my own ‘self-discovered modern expression’. My latest painting technique has developed into something unique from a love of blending hues and tones and interlaying motifs.

Glaze on Clay I also love creating with clay and prefer to make my own glazes and I’m fortunate to have my own kiln. Sometimes I collect clay from the mountain. I enjoy carving designs into these forms and I choose glazes that when the glaze breaks over the edges of the linework a new colour peaks through.

We are not only committed to providing beautiful quality hand-crafted home décor artworks on canvas and ceramic. Our core purpose is to educate, inform, and share our beautiful Aboriginal culture; whilst building and strengthening relationships in society. We provide a variety of workshops in Cairns for school groups including history/education accompanied by a painting or ceramic-making activity. We also provide full-day workshops to school educators and corporate businesses. Our team is made up of experienced professionals who are dedicated to ensuring that our customers are satisfied with our products and services.
